GUWAHATI, July 8 The City Police Commissioner today placed under suspension two sub-inspectors (SIs) in connection with the death of Victoria Kharkongar, a Shillong-based woman, at the Dispur Police Station.

Police sources said that SIs Preetilata Talukdar and Sanjeeb Kumar Chetri have been placed under suspension after receiving the probe report by the Joint Commissioner. The police also asserted that the woman was not raped in the police station as alleged by the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS).

Significantly, the KMSS has moved the Assam Human Rights Commission on the issue of the custodial death of the woman at the Dispur Police Station on Sunday night.

The Joint Commissioner of Guwahati Police, NMASF Haque, who was asked to investigate the causes and circumstances leading to the mysterious death of the woman from Meghalaya, submitted his report to the Commissioner of Police, Mukesh Agarwal.

Meanwhile, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration has ordered a probe into the mysterious death of Kharkongar. The probe will be headed by Additional District Magistrate Fakaruddin Ahmed. The probe report will be submitted within 15 days, a press statement said.
