DIBRUGARH, Sept 29 - Two suspected operatives of a little known Adivasi Tiger Force (ATF) outfit were arrested by police from the Sealkotee Tea Estate near Chabua town.
The police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Padmanabh Baruah, Dibrugarh OC Rajib Saikia and Chabua OC Tulumoni Duarah arrested the duo after an operation launched on September 27, police said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Sushil Orang and Saharai Orang.
Saharai Orang is reportedly the president of BJP's tea cell at Chabua. The police team also recovered one .22 pistol, one magazine and one round of live ammunition following the lead provided by the cadres.
However, the locals of Sealkotee and nearby tea gardens have rubbished the claims of the police. All Adivasi Students' Association of Assam (AASAA) vice president Lawrence Nag and a resident of Chabua said the entire case appears to be a conspiracy.
