IMPHAL, Oct 24 (PTI) - Two persons were shot dead by suspected militants in separate incidents in Manipur, police said today.
Three militants barged into the house of Paokhothang Haokip (58), Chief of Saheiphai village in interior Churachandpur district bordering Myanmar late last night and shot him from point blank range, they said, adding the motive behind the crime was not immediately known.
In another incident, suspected militants entered the house of Zila Parishad member Thokchom Sanayaima (62) at Utlou Thiyam Awang Leikai in interior Bishenpur district at around yesterday and gunned him down after calling him out, police said.
His body has been sent to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital here for post mortem, they said, adding the body would be handed over to the family today.
Extortion demands by a militant outfit appeared to be the cause of the crime, they added.
