GUWAHATI, Dec 24 Two new trains were formally flagged off from Guwahati today at a function held at Kamakhya rail station, during which the foundation stone for a train maintenance facility was also laid. Union Minister of State for Shipping, Mukul Roy, along with Bijoya Chakravarty, MP, and Bhubaneshwar Kalita, MP did the honours in the presence of NF Railway General Manager, Keshav Chandra.

The trains 15612/15611 Kamakhya-Lokmanya Tilak Karmabhoomi Express and the 15717/15718 Guwahati Mariani Intercity Express have been introduced due to long standing public demands.

Speaking on the occasion, Mukul Roy touched on the plans that railways have implemented to serve the Northeast in an efficient way.

Referring to the demands of more locals being absorbed in the Indian Railways, Roy said that with examinations taking place on a single day across the country, the chances of local people securing jobs has increased manifold. He lauded the NF Railway for the services rendered in this region.

Bijoya Chakravarty, MP said that NFR should ensure that 50 per cent of all jobs be reserved for residents of Assam and requested the NFR to connect Guwahati with Pune.

Bhubaneshwar Kalita, MP, mentioned that it was important that apart from connectivity, the NFR should also create opportunities for people of the region.
