DIBRUGARH, June 29 - Two more flood-related deaths have been reported from the district during the last 24 hours even as the flood waters have begun to recede in the municipality and elsewhere in the district here following dry weather since last Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Jitu Dutta (42) of Wilton under Tengakhat Revenue Circle and Turon Buragohain (18) of Halodhibari, Number-1 Konwar Gaon under Moran Revenue Circle.
On June 26, one Sanjay Goalla (55) of Hatiali village in Tipling mouza under Tengakhat Revenue Circle was reported drowned.
The fury of the flood has also posed an erosion threat on embankments in several locations. Some of the locations where Burhidehing river is causing damages to the embankment are � Bamungaon, Nagaon, Sessa Nepali, Chahorikota, Tingrai, Kutuha, Haldibari, Haldibari Konwar Gaon, Rongagora and Romaighat etc. Erosion by the Brahmputra is seen at Chaulkhowa ring bund and the erosion by the Sessa river is caused in Mainamiri ring bund.
However, immediate temporary measures have been initiated at the sites, as informed by the Water Resource Department.
According to the latest assessment report from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority of the district, some 170 villages and seven municipality wards have gone under flood water as on Monday and a population of about 51,763 have reportedly been affected.
The deluge has also posed threat to about 47,323 big animals, 22,885 small animals and 37,162 poultry in the flood-hit areas. Further, the flood has also submerged large tracts of crop area in the district. Around 3,979 hectares of land have been affected by the flood.
A total of 27 relief camps and 40 relief distribution centres have been constructed, of which 11 relief camps and 34 relief distribution camps have been set up in Dibrugarh East Revenue Circle alone.
