IMPHAL, Sept 23 - After Manipur recorded its biggest single-day spike of 270 positive cases on Tuesday, two persons, including a five-year-old child, died due to COVID-19 and other comorbidities today, taking the death toll in the State to 62.
�In the last 24 hours, two males aged five years and 53 years expired at the Shija Hospital due to COVID-19 and other comorbid health conditions,� the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated in a press release. The cumulative number of deaths is 62, it added.
Meanwhile, 77 persons from the general population and 19 personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces were confirmed positive in the past 24 hours, the press release said.
The civilian patients are from 11 districts of the State, the release added. Ten out of them are returnees from other States, while the rest 67 are local residents without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to COVID care facilities.
All necessary precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release added.
In the past 24 hours, 221 persons were also discharged from seven COVID care facilities after they were found negative through RT-PCR tests.
The cumulative number of positive cases in the State is 9,376, while the numbers of active and recovered cases are 2,206 and 7,108 respectively. The recovery rate is 74.81 per cent in Manipur.
As of Wednesday 3,75,068 people were screened at various entry points of the State, while 2,17,880 samples were tested for COVID-19, according to the latest official report.
The Manipur Health Department has appealed to those who have come into contact with positive persons to self-isolate themselves and contact the COVID Control Room or the Chief Medical Officer for tests. �Together, we can break the COVID chain,� it stated.
