Two held on molestation charges

BONGAIGAON, Aug 13 - Police arrested two persons on Sunday from the Prasanti Tourist Lodge located between the Circuit House and Deputy Commissioner�s residence at College Road in the town on the charge of molesting a married woman the previous night.

The accused have been identified as Nasir Uddin Ahmed (32), proprietor of the lodge and Akhtar Ali (23), who had checked in the lodge with woman aged about 25 years on Saturday night at around 11 pm by misguiding her and paid Rs 1,000 to Nasir. Nasir had allowed Akhtar to use a room (no. 105) without registering his name and address in the entry book.

But at around 11.30 pm, Akhtar with the help of Nasir had attempted to molest the woman.

Some activists of the All Assam Gorkha Students� Union reached the spot and rescued the woman with the help of police.

The victim was supposed to travel by a train from New Bongaigaon station to New Jalpaiguri station along with her 7-year-old son.

As per the report filed by the victim. police registered a case no 651/2018 under Section 120 (B)/376/511/420/34 of IPC and arrested the accused Akhtar, son of Kurban Ali, a resident of Amguri in Chirang district and Nasir. After being produced before the court, they were sent to judicial custody.
