Two foreign teams likely in Bodousa Cup soccer

GUWAHATI, July 14 - Since its inception in the year 2011, with Tinsukia being the headquarter, the Bodousa Sports Club has been working for the cause of sports in general and football in particular in the State.

Apart from organising coaching camps in different events, the club has been organising a football championship � Bodousa Cup football tournament. This year the tournament, recognised by the All India Football Federation and Assam Football Association, will be held from September 22 to October 4.

Addressing a press conference here today, Arunjyoti Moran, president of the Bodousa SC, revealed that this year the tournament will be organised in Tinsukia, Duliajan, Digboi, Margherita, Diphu and Nalbari. Altogether 32 teams will be seen in action which will include two teams from abroad, two ISL and as many I-League outfits, informed Moran.

The foreign team, one each from Bangladesh and Nepal, along with the ISL and I-Leagues outfits will be placed in the pre-quarterfinal stage directly while top teams of the eight groups will get a berth in the pre-quarters.

Moran further said that the champion and runners-up teams will get Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively while the third and fourth position holders will become richer by Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. Individual cash prizes of Rs 5000 each will be given to the best player of the tournament, final, highest scorer and best goalkeeper. The organisers will require Rs 2.5 crore for successful hosting of the meet.

Amal Narayan Patowary, president of the Assam Handball Association, along with other Bodousa SC officials were also present in the press conference.
