Two drug peddlers held

By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, Nov 9 - Meghalaya Police have arrested two drug peddlers with heroin here on Friday.

Acting on inputs from the Intelligence wing of the Assam Rifles about the movement of suspected drug peddlers at Police Bazaar, the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) of East Khasi Hills district swung into action and nabbed one Lobkush Bohara with 5.93 grams of heroin. One vehicle was also seized.

A case has been registered in this connection at the Sadar Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985.

The police said the accused is a BA (English) student of the ICFAI University here. The accused is a close associate of another drug dealer, Haleem Miah, who was caught recently at Nongthamai, the police added.

The ANTF also arrested another drug dealer, Rahul Das, with 119.48 grams of heroin, but another accused, Imran Mynthlu, managed to give the police the slip.

A hunt is on to apprehend Mynthlu and the police have already sought information from the public regarding his whereabouts.

The police have informed that in both the cases, the accused had brought the contraband from Guwahati.

Due to constant vigil and strong action against drug peddlers in the recent past, the drug racketeers have changed their strategy and are bringing in drugs in smaller consignments to avoid detection, the police stated.
