NORTH LAKHIMPUR, March 5 - Two persons drowned when the boat they were travelling in capsized during heavy rain in the Subansiri river near Bogeenadi, 15 km from here, police said.

The incident took place in Khalihamari on Saturday evening when seven labourers from Hesamora in Bhimpora area were returning home after working at the Bhimpora embankment.

As the boat capsized during a storm, five passengers managed to swim to safety. Two persons, Bhaiti Gogoi and Sana Chutia, however, went missing.

A rescue team from the Bogeenadi police station and the National Disaster Response Force launched search operations, but failed to locate the two.
