GUWAHATI, June 12 � A two-day Buyers-Sellers Meet, 2015 has been organised from tomorrow at Golaghat by the North Eastern Tea Association (NETA), a press release issued here stated.
Tomorrow, a meeting will be held at NETA auditorium where MGVK Bhanu, Addl Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister and former Chairman of the Tea Board will be present as the chief guest. Piyush Desai, CMD of Wagh Bakri Tea Group, will be present as the guest of honour. Chetan Patel, honorary secretary of FAITTA, an apex body of tea traders, will be present as the honourable guest. Milind Shah, director of Girnar and Ashok Relia, a reputed private tea broker of Ahmedabad will also be present. Dipankar Mukerjee, executive director i/c, Tea Board and Prabhat Bezboruah, vice chairman, Tea Research Association have been invited as the distinguished speakers.
On June 14, a tea tasting session and interactive meet will held at the same venue. More than 60 tea estates/factories are expected to display their teas. Spot buying and selling is expected to take place. Big domestic tea packeteers like Wagh Bakri, Girnar, Jivraj etc., will also attend the meet.
�The purpose of this meet is to create a platform to facilitate closer ties between buyers and producers. We are planning to make this an annual event in future. Frequent interactions between producers and buyers will help in better understanding and thereby better business�, said Bidyananda Barkakoty, chairman, NETA.
�Some small tea growers have set-up own processing units to manufacture green tea. We have invited them also. Some small tea growers are producing handmade teas and some are producing organic teas in small quantities, we have invited them too so that they have better market linkages�, Barkakoty said.
