BONGAIGAON, March 10 - Two bodies, including that of a police constable were recovered in the district in the last couple of days.

In the first case, the body of a police constable identified as Karuna Kanta Ray (45) was found on the Tulungia-Borghola road in Bongaigaon district on Monday morning. The body bore several injury marks.

Police recovered an iron rod, nylon string and his clothes around 500 metres away from the spot where the body was lying. The deceased was posted at the North Salmara police outpost and was absent from duty for past two days, a police officer said.

According to the Bongaigaon Superintendent of Police Singha Ram Mili, it was a case of murder and very soon the accused will be booked.

Meanwhile, the Goalpara, Dhubri and Bongaigaon Police conducted a joint operation on Sunday night and recovered the body of a youth identified as Ajay Shah (34), a resident of Lakhipur in Goalpara district from Bhairabchuda hill in Boitamari area in Bongaigaon district.

A friend Aminur Islam had abducted Ajay on February 25 from Lakhipur. Later, he was handed over to a criminal gang. The abductors had demanded Rs 50 lakh ransom from Ajays family. After police arrested Sahidul, a member of the gang, he led the police to the spot where Ajays body was dumped. Ajay was drugged before he was killed mercilessly by poking with sharp weapon(s). Ajay was drugged and later he was killed. His abdomen was left cut-open so that it did not emanate any stink, the accused Sahidul told the police. After the body was recovered, police seized a laptop and sharp weapons from one Moinuls residence near the spot. Moinul is absconding, a police officer said.
