SILCHAR, May 31 - Karimganj Police arrested two persons on Friday in connection with the alleged murder of a youth identified as Joydeep Dey.
�We have arrested two persons, namely Subash Namasudra (40) and Swarthak Nag (35) in connection with the incident which took place on Thursday night and interrogation is in progress,� Dr Debojit Nath, Additional SP Karimganj told The Assam Tribune on Friday. Prior to the arrest of the duo, police had picked up five persons for investigation as well.
Meanwhile, police informed that the prima facie investigation revealed that the incident resulted due to financial dealings between the victim and the accused persons.
Earlier, protesting the killing, people staged a road blockade in the border town till 12 noon demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. The blockade was lifted following assurances from the police and higher authorities of quick action.
It may be mentioned that 42-year-old Joydeep Dey, a resident of Roy Nagar in Karimganj and an employee of a local transport firm was found murdered at a place in Ghatline area of the border town which triggered sensation across the vicinity since Thursday night.
