Twin video of Mitradeb Mahanta�s popular Assamese song �Siro Senehi...� launched

GUWAHATI, Jan 20 - Writer-lyricist Lakhyaheera Das today launched the twin video of Mitradeb Mahanta�s popular Assamese song �Siro Senehi...� made by Lahar in the presence of writer-translator Pradeep Acharya, music director Ramen Choudhury and educationist Satyendra Kumar Choudhury at a programme held at the Guwahati Press Club.

Lahar is a group of music lovers from various streams like doctors, engineers, professors, musicians, music composers, artistes and scientists among others.

�There is an instrumental rendition of the song in one video with English subtitles of the song and in the other there is the original song and the video along with English subtitles. The main objective of Lahar is to revive the old melodious songs of Assam which probably our new generation never heard of. These traditional Assamese songs may be lost in the process of new songs coming up. Lahar wants to preserve these songs in the form of video recording, CDs, etc.,� said secretary of Lahar, Aradhana Goswami in her welcome address.

Goswami added that under the project named Brahmaputra Octave, Lahar has taken up mainly instrumental renditions of the old Assamese songs in the original tune with the support of latest technology.

Praising the initiative of Lahar, Lakhyaheera Das said, �It is a very important step taken by Lahar at this point of time. It is our duty to introduce the great songs of all time to our new generation. Through this process we can connect to the present generation and popularise the songs among them. I congratulate and thank them for the initiative.�

President of Lahar Satyendra Kumar Choudhury said, �This is the first outcome of Lahar, for which we had come together. Lahar provides us a kind of platform to preserve our rich culture.�

Members of the instrumental team behind the creation are � Rupam Talukdar, Manoj Baruah, Jayanta Gogoi, Subhesh Bose, Junali Gupta, Rupam Talukdar and Anupjyoti Choudhury. The overall concept and direction is given by Ramen Choudhury. The English translation has been done by Pradeep Acharya.

The event began with a Saraswati Bandana by Arkaja Bharadwaj. It was anchored by Reena Rai Khataniar. Kamal Kataki gave a brief note on the lyrics of the original song.
