Twin blasts averted in Cachar

SILCHAR, Sept 15 - In a major breakthrough, twin blasts were averted in Cachar district after police arrested four persons plotting blasts at the Sadarghat flyover here and at Fulertal in Lakhipur subdivision, and recovered an IED from Sonai.

According to sources, acting on a tip-off, police along with Assam Rifles jawans recovered one powerful IED along with 52 gelatin sticks weighing 6.5 kg, one fuse wire and a map depicting the sites where the bombs were to be planted.

The explosives have been recovered from the house of one Mostar Ali Laskar at Tulagram Part II under Sonai constituency. Mostar along with his sons Afzal Hussain Laskar and Ajmal Hussain Laskar and Atabur Rahman Laskar, also from Tulagram Part II, were arrested from the spot.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Subhashini Sankaran said the map recovered from the accused indicates two flyovers targeted by them. �All the four accused have been produced before the court and they have been sent to a four-day police remand. We are probing the case and looking into all possible angles of threats,� the police official said.
