TV scribe dies in road mishap

GUWAHATI, Aug 27 - A 27-year-old promising television journalist, Rima Sharma, died after being hit by a truck at around 12.30 last night at the ABC area of the city.

Rima was coming out from the Dona Planet campus on her scooty when the truck, coming from the Ganeshguri side, hit her.

She was rushed to GMCH where she succumbed to her injuries, her colleagues said. Her last rites were performed at Nabagraha today.

A resident of Nizarapar, Rima had joined the Prag News in 2010. She had interviewed a number of celebrities and had been anchoring the show �Biswar Ajab Khabar� for the channel.

DCP (traffic) Amanjeet Kaur said a truck has been seized on suspicion. �We are trying to ascertain if it is the same vehicle. We have also collected CCTV footages from the nearby shops and outlets and found the image of the vehicle. We have circulated the image to all concerned for tracking the vehicle,� she said.

Several organisations, including BJP, AGP, the All India Federation of Diploma Engineers, AAMSU, the Guwahati Press Club, the Dispur Press Club, the GMC mayor and others have condoled her death.

The Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) has expressed shock at the sudden demise of Rima Sharma.

Prior to her last rites performed at Navagraha, Rima was paid rich tributes at her work place and the Guwahati Press Club.
