TV news presenters death condoled

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 15 - The Journalists Forum Assam (JFA) has expressed profound grief at the untimely demise of television news presenter and video editor Manik Sarma, who breathed his last recently.

Hailing from Bilasipara in western Assam, Sarma promoted himself as a reliable video editor during his tenure as an employee of NETV and DY365. A qualified tabla player, soft-spoken Sarma used to direct and perform at many programmes telecast by Doordarshan. He earned applause as a relater too.

Manik is the sixth mediaperson who died untimely during the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown in Assam, a JFA statement issued by its president Rupam Baruah and secretary Nava Thakuria said, adding that earlier the State had lost Pijush Kanti Das, Mozahedul Haque, Padmeswar Chitrakar, Bhaskar Dutta and Pranjal Hazarika to various ailments.

JFA also urged the media houses in the State to organise regular health awareness and check-up camps for the benefit of their employees. The forum expressed hope that the practising physicians with other health workers would support the endeavour as a preventive measure to save the precious lives of many mediapersons in Assam.
