TURA, Dec 18 - The final leg of festivities in Garo Hills today kicked off with the Tura Winter Youth Festival that showcased the rich culture of the Garos.

The three-day Youth fest aims to provide a platform to the local talents. It also envisages at leveraging the activities of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and entrepreneurs for business engagement.

Inaugurating the fest, Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills Ram Singh said, The fest would usher in peace and the advent of Christmas and New Year. We want to engage the youth in the fest to enhance their skills and display their talents.

The highlights of the fest include mobile photography contest, karaoke, film screening, futsal, cyclotron, retro and country night, traditional musical instrument competitions, amongst others. The fest will come to a close with performance by local rock bands on December 20.

The government departments have put up stalls to propagate message of Swacch Bharat, healthy life, fish farming and sustainable agricultural practices, while SHGs and entrepreneurs have put on sale their homemade products, artifacts and food items.
