Tura bids adieu to Goddess Durga

TURA, Oct 24 - The annual Durga Puja celebrations came to an end yesterday with the immersion of the idols of Goddess Durga in Babupara locality here.

The four-day festival of Hindus which embodies the fight of good over evil passed off peacefully. More than 20,000 people of the town lined up the streets during the immersion procession amidst beating of drums, dancing and splashing of colours.

�We hope this year�s celebrations usher in an era of peace and prosperity for our homes which have been ravaged by years of violence. Maa Durga is the embodiment of the win of good over evil and we pray that the region gets much deserved peace�, said Basudev Dey, a resident of the town.

A total of 23 Puja pandals were set up this year, an addition of one over the past year. The Nepali Durga Puja committee celebrated its 130th anniversary this year.
