BONGAIGAON, Jan 22 - Employees of the Bongaigaon Refinery (BGR) staged a protest rally in front of the deputy commissioner�s office at Kajalgaon in Chirang district on Thursday demanding a tunnel road under the NH-31C at Dhaligaon connecting the main gate of the refinery for their safety.
According to the employees, over 5,000 of them have to cross the newly-constructed four-lane-highway daily, to reach the refinery from their residences in the township. Over 500 employees undertake to-and-fro journeys between the township and the plant every hour of the day. So, the busy highway poses as a risk to their lives.
To press for their demand, the employees took out a rally from the main gate of the refinery to the deputy commissioner�s office on Thursday and submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Rupak Kumar Mazumdar in this connection.
