TSECL signs MoU with NEEPCO to upgrade 3 projects

AGARTALA, July 22 � Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) has sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NEEPCO to upgrade three power projects in Tripura.

The power projects include 42 MW Barmura gas thermal power project, 63 MW Rukhia gas thermal power plant and 7 MW Dumbur hydro power project. As per the plan, the NEEPCO will convert two gas thermal power plants into combined cycle while the Dumbur hydro power project would be renovated to increase its power generation capacity.

The upgradation plan amounting to Rs 450 crore is expected to get over by next two years. �Once the Barmura turns into combine cycle, it will produce 25 MW extra power while Rukhia is expected generate 35 MW extra power after the conversion from open cycle to combine cycle�, said NEEPCO CMD PC Pankaj after inking the MoU with TSECL.

The MoU was signed at the Civil Secretariat here in the presence of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Power Minister Manik Dey and TSECL Chairman cum Managing Director SK Roy on Monday night.

Of the total expenditure of Rs 450 crore for upgradation of the three power projects, NEEPCO will bear half while the remaining fund will be raised by TSECL. And in turn, NEEPCO will receive 50 per cent power from the three power projects.

The Chief Minister said the MoU will have a positive impact on the power sector in Tripura. �We do hope the NEEPCO will bring prosperity in the region by extending its expertise in the power sector�, he added.

Power Minister said, �The government has been trying to rope in NEEPCO to upgrade three power projects in Tripura. If the plan is implemented, both Tripura and NEEPCO will be benefitted�.

Sources said the NEEPCO has already carried out Project Feasibility Report (PFR) for upgradation of the State�s lone hydro electric project in Gomati district while the Detailed Project Report is expected to get completed by next one and half month.
