AGARTALA, April 15 - The first COVID-19 patient of Tripura, who has now tested negative twice, was discharged from the GB Pant Hospital here today. However, she will remain in institutional quarantine for 14 days, official sources said here.

The 47-year-old woman was admitted to the GB Pant Hospital on April 5 after testing positive for the disease. During the course of treatment, she went through two more tests and came out clean again on Tuesday.

Today, the woman was discharged from the hospital after a medical board certified her to be out of danger. Now, she will be in 14-day institutional quarantine as per the treatment protocol, said State-level monitoring committee chief TK Chakma.

Meanwhile, the second COVID-19 patient, a Tripura State Rifles jawan, is also responding well to treatment, Chakma said, adding that he would undergo a test tomorrow. If everything is okay, he is also likely to be cleared by the next three days, he stated.

Altogether 600 people with travel history are still under surveillance in the State. Out of them, 455 are under home quarantine, while the remaining 145 are under institutional quarantine.

More than 800 swabs have been collected for tests and 738 have tested negative. Only two cases were found positive.

The Government has decided to scale up COVID-19 tests by next week as the State is in a relatively better position in the battle against the pandemic. An elaborate plan has been designed, which will be put into action shortly, said Dr Deep Debbarma, Tripuras Surveillance Officer.

Out of the eight COVID-19 patients who are quarantined outside the State, two have already cleared the swab tests and sent to institutional quarantine for 14 days.

On being asked about withdrawal of restrictions from some key sectors, Chakma, who is also the Secretary of the Secretariat Administration, said the Government would continue to follow Prime Minister Narendra Modis announcements, hinting that relaxation may be provided only if the situation starts showing improvement after April 20.
