AGARTALA, May 9 Tripura Government has expressed its satisfaction over the clearing of the historic Land Boundary Bill (LBA) in the Parliament which will pave the way for a permanent solution to border problems in Muhurichar in Belonia subdivision.
As per the agreement, a part of Muhurichar would go to Bangladesh while another portion would remain with India.
But, Chandhanagar, an enclave of Kamalpur subdivision, which is shown as adverse possession land would be coming to Indian side permanently.
Expressing satisfaction over the move, Tripura Revenue Minister Badal Chowdhury on Saturday said with the clearing of the LBA, a 50 year-old dispute over Muhurichar has been ended.
Sharing his past experience, Chowdhury said the dispute over Muhurichar, a fertile land for Indian farmers, started way back in 1965. Heavy exchange of fire between India and the then East Pakistan was a routine affair in the 60s over Muhurichar. The long dispute has been solved after clearing of the Bill by the Parliament, he said.
Chowdhury, however, said notification has not been issued how much area of Muhurichar would go to Bangladesh side. He hinted at cremation ground for Hindus, burial ground for Muslims and Nath community of Muhurichar would remain on the Indian side.
The portion that had entered to Indian side after Muhuri river changed its course will go to Bangladesh side, according to the agreement, he said, adding that there would be no need to get worried as no one will be evicted from Muhurichar.
On the other hand, Chandannagar, an adverse possession land in Kamalpur subdivision covering an area of 139.07 acres would remain with India permanently, as per the agreement.
Chowdhury informed that an all party meeting in Tripura Assembly held in 2013 had suggested that most part of the disputed char land at Muhuripur would go to Bangladesh side and the enclave at Chandannagar would come to Indian side. And, the Parliament cleared the Bill ending a long border dispute between two neighbouring countries, he added.
