AGARTALA, Aug 27 - The COVID-19 situation in Tripura continues to be grim as two more patients died of the infection and 385 more people tested positive during the past 24 hours.

The infection of 385 persons is the highest one-day spike in COVID-19 cases in Tripura. With two fatalities reported on Wednesday, the death toll in the State has soared to 85 and the total positive cases have risen to 9,951.

Though the recovery rate is more or less satisfactory (70.32 per cent), the fatality rate (0.89 per cent) and the positivity rate (3.76 per cent) have shot up in the State. As of now, Tripura has 2,738 active cases and a total of 6,697 patients have recovered so far. With the number of positive cases scaling up, the Government has decided to expand facilities in the COVID care centres at Hapania and the Shahid Bhagat Singh Hostel.

The State Government has effected minor adjustments in providing COVID care to afflicted people. According to a notification issued by the Director of Tripura Health Department today, part of the Shahid Bhagat Singh Covid Care Centre has been converted into a dedicated COVID hospital for serious patients, while part of the international fair ground at Hapania would be a dedicated COVID care centre for patients with mild symptoms.
