Tripura University VC resigns

By CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA, Sept 7 - The Vice Chancellor of the Tripura Central University, VL Dharurkar, resigned today in the aftermath of a sting operation carried out by a local news channel. Dharurkar had held the prestigious post for a little more than one year.

The Vice Chancellor, who has been accused of gross anomalies in handling the universitys finances, nepotism and bribery, was allegedly caught in the sting operation accepting money from the proprietor of a printing firm at the latters Kolkata-based residence. The sting operation has had a massive fallout in the State.

Earlier also, several complaints were reportedly sent to the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) against the Vice Chancellor.

A top MHRD official is understood to have called Dharurkar on Saturday morning and sternly asked him to tender his resignation on Saturday itself.

The MHRD official told the outgoing Vice Chancellor that Dr Sangram Sinha, currently the senior most professor in the university, should take over responsibility as the acting Vice Chancellor after his departure.

Dr Sinha, who is in Kolkata, has been informed of the decision by the MHRD and asked to take over charge.
