AGARTALA, Oct 2 - People in Tripura led by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb paid rich tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary today. Deb led a huge procession here, offered �shramdan� and took part in a �Swachhata Abhiyan� programme.
Deb, who is also the Tripura BJP chief, urged people in a seminar to participate in the State Government�s mission to create a �Swachh Tripura�.
On the occasion, the first Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Award was conferred on noted Gandhian, late Chitta Ranjan Deb, who died in October last year at the age of 87.
The Opposition Congress also organised a padyatra and other programmes on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. � IANS
