Tripura tribal party mulls writ petition in SC for NRC

By The Assam Tribune

AGARTALA, Sept 28 - The Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) is contemplating to file a writ petition in the Supreme Court for implementation of the National Register of Citizens in the State, a top leader of the tribal party said today.

INPT general secretary Jagadish Debbarma told this news agency that the party is also considering to organise a dharna in Delhi in November on issues like the NRC, more autonomy to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), implementation of the inner line permit system in the TTAADC areas and inclusion of the Kokbarak language of the State in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

Tripura is a border State and we have been facing the problem of infiltration. So we are contemplating to file a writ petition in the apex court for implementation of the NRC. We are likely to file the petition in November, Debbarma said.

The INPT general secretary said the party was facing a fund crunch and was trying to raise funds for going to Delhi to organise the dharna.

Debbarma also demanded repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016. He said the party would organise a movement in the hilly areas for a permanent solution to the drinking water crisis and improvement of the health care system in the tribal council areas.

The TTAADC constitutes two-third of the States territory. PTI
