AGARTALA, May 11 - In a move to improve quality of education system in Tripura, the State Government has decided to re-introduce pass-fail system from 2019-20 academic year.
However, the pass-fail system would be implemented in two classes only � V and VIII � in place of no-detention policy.
Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath while speaking to the media here on Saturday, said they are considering introducing pass-fail system in class V and VIII. And, there will be no examination or pass-fail from class I to IV and in class VI and VII; instead they will face an annual evaluation process.
The pass-fail system up to class VIII was abolished way back in 2010 after adoption of Right to Education Act but the last nine years� experience is not very satisfactory, prompting the State Government to reconsider the decision.
During this period the State Government conducted several surveys, each of which proved that habit of reading among the students has severely deteriorated due to scrapping of pass-fail system.
The Education department has already issued an order to all the schools across the State to ensure that the weight of the school bag is reduced up to the prescribed limit of the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT).
Earlier, CBSE curriculum has been introduced from Class I to Xth standard in all the government and government-aided schools to boost the State�s education system. Now, it is to be seen how the things unfold in the days to come.
