AGARTALA, May 26 - Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan would inaugurate a three-day conference of the Northeast Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (NERCPA) in the Tripura Assembly complex here on May 30 next, official sources said.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Prof PJ Kurien, Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha Dr M Thambi Durai and Secretary General of Lok Sabha Secretariat Anoop Mishra would also remain present in the inaugural function.
Speakers and Dy Speakers of all eight NE States are expected to join the conference, said Tripura Speaker Ramendra Debnath.
Debnath also said Governor Tathagata Roy and Tripura Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tapan Chakraborty would attend the valedictory session. On being asked if there was any resolution on working days of the Assemblies, the Speaker said there was a resolution adopted in the All India Speaker�s Conference in Gujarat in 2015 to have at least 100 working days in case of a small Assembly. �However, almost all small States had urged the Speaker to make it 30 days due to lack of business. In Tripura, working days of Assembly stands at only 20 days�, added he.
