Tripura surrendered ultras launch hunger strike

By The Assam Tribune

AGARTALA, March 25 (PTI) - A total of 1,200 surrendered insurgents of two banned outfits - National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) Wednesday launched a 72-hour hunger strike, demanding economic rehabilitation.

The insurgents surrendered before the Tripura Government in various places in the last three years following an assurance that they would be economically rehabilitated.

"We surrendered to the government with assurance of rehabilitating us economically, but the State government did not keep its word," Achai Kashrung Jamatia, leader of the agitating ex-insurgents told reporters here.

About 370 tribal insurgents had surrendered last year after fleeing from their base camps in Bangladesh and this year over 30 insurgents came overground.
