AGARTALA, March 26 - The Tripura Government today sent a chopper to bring live-saving drugs and other essential medical items like masks, suits and gloves, which are stuck in Kolkata and Guwahati due to the ongoing lockdown.
Confirming this, the MBB Airport authorities here tweeted: �State Govt sends one Helicopter to Kolkata to bring essential items like medicines and other required items which were stranded at Kolkata due to lockdown.�
Meanwhile, Dr Debasish Basu, Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, said that masks and gloves have been distributed among doctors and nursing staff. The chopper will bring a large consignment of protective gear in the battle against COVID-19. The authorities of Tripura Bhavans have been asked to procure protective kits wherever they are available, he said.
Tripura, which shares borders with Mizoram and the neighbouring country of Bangladesh that have reported COVID-19 cases, has no positive case of novel coronavirus as yet.
Altogether 61 suspected cases have been tested for COVID-19 and among them, 35 people tested negative, said Dr Basu. Among the 10 passengers who flew along with a Manipur resident who has tested positive for COVID-19 in an Agartala-bound AirAsia flight on March 21, eight have tested negative.
According to Dr Basu, 42 persons have been placed under institutional quarantine and out of them, 40 have foreign travel history.
