Tripura reports 27 new COVID-19 cases

AGARTALA, May 30 - The COVID-19 cases continue to shoot up in Tripura with detection of 27 new cases in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of active cases in the State to 97.

The spurt in COVID cases has set alarm bells ringing in the State. Altogether 1,713 people have been tested for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, out of whom 27 persons, who had returned from other States and Bangladesh, tested positive, said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

Among the 27 patients, 15 had come back from Mumbai and nine from Bangladesh.

Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath today said the State has recorded 255 positive cases, out of which 97 are currently active.

�Till date, 26,938 samples were collected, of which 25,403 have been tested. At present 510 persons are placed under institutional quarantine and 10,771 under home quarantine,� he said.

Among the COVID-19 patients, 163 are BSF jawans and their family members, while 77 are returnees. Most of the patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
