Tripura registers 52 new cases

AGARTALA, June 18 - COVID-19 infections continue to rise in Tripura as 52 new positive cases were confirmed during the past 24 hours, taking the total number of patients to 1,147, official sources stated. As of now, the State has only 646 active cases.

Among the new COVID-19 cases, 29 are BSF jawans of different battalions. Earlier also, two BSF battalion headquarters in Dhalai district witnessed a major outbreak of COVID-19. However, the situation has become normal there.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, in a tweet, confirmed 43 new COVID-19 cases in the State last night. He today confirmed that nine more positive cases were detected.

The number of positive cases has been coming down over the past few days, he claimed. �Only 82 positive cases were found after testing of 2,070 samples on June 13, This has come down to 33 positive cases out of 1,670 tested samples on June 14 and only 10 swabs tested positive out of 1,529 tested samples on June 15,� a senior official said here.

As many as 43 cases tested positive out of total 1,250 swabs on June 17 and the number went down to nine on June 18 out of total 130 swabs, added the official.

The number of containment zones has been reduced from 32 to 18. The official said the Government is laying stress on conducting maximum COVID-19 tests for persons returning from outside the State.
