AGARTALA, July 19 - Two more persons with comorbidities died of COVID-19 in Tripura on Saturday, taking the death toll due to the contagion in the State to five.
One of them was a woman in her sixties having throat cancer while another was a 73-year-old man with diabetes and hypertension.
�Unfortunately 2 COVID-19 patients died today. Among them one was a patient of throat cancer and another person was patient of Hypertension,� Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said in a Facebook post.
He further said that of 4184 samples tested yesterday, 171 were found to be COVID-19 positive.
A large number of BSF personnel, mostly from Dhalai district, have contracted the disease. Among the 171 fresh cases detected yesterday, a whopping 146 are BSF jawans.
Sepahijala, Gomati, South and West districts are the worst-hit by the pandemic in Tripura.
Dhalai district, which reported the first case of COVID-19 in the State in May, reported 85 new cases yesterday.
A total of 1,05,059 COVID-19 tests have been conducted, including 91,776 RT-PCR tests and 13,283 Rapid Antigen Tests, in the State so far.
Currently, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Tripura stands at 2,673.
�To fight the COVID19 pandemic, our Govt is focusing on: Testing, Tracing and Treatment. We are conducting maximum number of tests to ensure safety of everyone, we have adequate Medical Infrastructure to tackle the Pandemic. Requesting everyone to co-operate and not to Panic,� the Chief Minister wrote on Facebook.
