Tripura PCC gets jumbo committee

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Oct 16 - Armed with the approval of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Tripura PCC president Birajit Sinha on Sunday declared a full-fledged State committee.

In the 151-member committee, almost all senior party leaders were accommodated aiming to reverse the partys fortune in the 2018 Assembly elections in the State.

In the jumbo panel, thirteen party leaders were selected as vice presidents while 19 others were named as general secretaries and 35 as secretaries.

There was no surprise as Pradyut Kishore Deb Barman, who was PCC working president retained his post.

Sinha took almost one and one half years to have a full-fledged PCC after making a lot of homework. In the new PCC committee, around 60 per cent are young while ST/SC, OBC and others were given due importance.

The PCC committee was approved around three weeks back but we had to wait to see who are leaving the party in the hour of crisis, PCC president told the media at Congress Bhavan here.

We have already decided to constitute booth level committees by December to speed up organisational matter, he said adding that the new committee would meet soon to prepare a roadmap for spearheading massive agitational programmes against the ruling CPM.

Sinha said the party, although passing through bad time, would be able to be factor in the 2018 Assembly elections.

The party is going to organise a rally either in December or first part of January where central leaders are expected to join, he said.

Whatever might be the political game in West Bengal, Congress will continue to fight the CPM-led Left Front in the next Assembly elections, he said.

MLA Gopal Roy and newly-appointed PCC vice president Pijush Kanti Biswas were present at the press briefing.
