Tripura panchayat polls today

AGARTALA, July 14 � The State Election authority in Tripura have fully geared up for the three-tier panchayat elections scheduled to be held on Tuesday.

A total of 10.20 lakh voters are eligible cast their votes in the elections, according to official sources. Altogether 13,754 candidates are in the fray.

591 Gram Panchayats have 6111 seats and out of them elections would be held in 5125 seats as ruling CPM has already won 980 seats unopposed. In 35 Panchayat Samities, the elections would be held in 381 seats while 38 seats have already been won by CPM candidates uncontested. In eight Zilla Parisads, the election would be held in 114 seats as two seats have already been captured by CPM nominees unopposed.

�We have kept ready all necessary arrangements for conducting the grass root-level elections. And all the polling personnel will start their journey for polling booths with polling materials�, said an official of State Election Commission here on Sunday.
