AGARTALA, June 29 - Senior Tripura Civil Service (TCS) officer Panna Ahmed has been suspended for his alleged involvement in a rape case, official sources confirmed here.
An FIR was lodged against former SDM of Sonamura Panna Ahmed for allegedly raping a mother of two sons in his residence near Western Club area here on Monday.
West Agartala Women�s police station registered a case under section 376 (Rape), 342 (Unlawful confinement) and 506 (Criminal intimidation) against Ahmed.
�Panna Ahmed has been suspended for his act and police have been asked to arrest him immediately�, said Chief Secretary Yaspal Singh on Wednesday.
�Statement of the victim was recorded under section 164 Cr PC before a local court. A Dy SP level officer along with police personnel is camping at the spot but no arrest has been made so far�, said the Duty Officer of West Women�s police station.
Opposition parties including BJP, Trinamool Congress and Congress have demanded immediate arrest of the officer facing rape charge.
