AGARTALA, Oct 7 - Although the overall COVID-19 situation in Tripura has improved over the last couple of days as far as fatalities are concerned, the High Court of Tripura is not satisfied with the action-taken report (ATR) on the pandemic.
While conducting a hearing on the ATR, a division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Akil Kureshi and Justice Subhasish Talapatra sought more inputs by October 13 next
The High Court observed, �The people should not get a false ideal that there is a dramatic improvement in the Coronavirus infections and that life should go back to normal. This would be serious mistake with serious consequences�.
It further said, �The comparison of the figures � positivity, recovery and fatality would show that over a period of time the test conducted everyday has come down substantially�.
In the period from September 9 to 25, the samples tested per day ranged between 3,500 to 4,000 or in some cases, more. In the period after September 25, the numbers came down drastically with around 2,000 tests.
Advocate General (AG) Arun Kanti Bhoumik told the court that the number of tests has declined as these have been discontinued in the airport due to the very low positivity rate.
Justice Kureshi asked the AG to let the court know about the action on the recommendation of the Central team on malfunctioning of COVID care centre facilities � ventilators, X-ray and CT machines � by October 13.
Meanwhile, 285 persons have tested positive during the last 24 hours in Tripura.
�As many as 2,384 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours in the State, out of whom 285 were confirmed positive. At present, the infection rate stands at 6.78 per cent, while the recovery rate has touched 82.83 per cent. The fatality rate remains at 1.10 per cent,� a bulletin issued by the Health Department stated here today.
So far Tripura has recorded 27,308 positive cases. Out of them 22,600 have already recovered, while 4,364 patients are undergoing treatment. The total death toll stands at 298.
