Tripura Govt to unveil tourism scheme for employment generation

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, June 20 - The Tripura Government has finally decided to kick off an ambitious scheme Paryatan Sahayak Prakalp a tourism scheme aimed at employment generation.

After approval by the State Government, Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki has given his consent to float the new tourism scheme, according to sources.

The scheme would be launched on July 1 next and will remain in force till June 30, 2021. An entrepreneur or unemployed youth could get loan amounting to Rs 5 lakh from bank based on the approval by the high level committee under the Prakalp.

The amount could be more if the project is viable. If the loanee repays installments on regular basis to the banks, he or she doesnt need to pay interest money as the government will bear it.

The focus areas for the scheme include hotel, toilets adjacent to tourist spots, restaurant, roadside dhaba, boat, speedboat, houseboat, water adventure sports, heritage tourism, eco tourism or any other creative venture to promote tourism.

Those who have completed tourism course or trained under Pradhan Mantri Koushal Vikash Yojana will get priority under the scheme.

Tripura is facing an acute problem of unemployment, which has already crossed 7.50 lakh in a State having 37 lakh population. Since employability scope is thin in the government sector, the new government is looking at other options to address the problem, said an official of the Labour Department.
