Tripura Govt releases DA despite crisis

By Prabir Sil

AGARTALA, May 31 Ending a long wait, Tripura Government on Tuesday released three per cent DA to its 1.12 lakh empoyees and pensioners with effect from July 1.

The Cabinet which held a meeting on Tuesday passed the proposal for releasing three per cent DA from July 1 along with three per cent yearly increment, said Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury at a press confernce here.

The government has enhanced the salary of Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi helpers as well. While Anganwadi workers will receive Rs 1,681 instead of Rs 1,568, Anganwadi helpers will get Rs 1,198 instead of Rs 1,198.

Chowdhury said that the government would have to bear an additional burden of Rs 88.13 crore annually after release of three per cent DA to its employees. But this year, the buden will be less Rs 66.10 crore as the decision has got delayed.

Chowdhury admitted that there had been financial constraint on the part of government but it would not come on the way of releasing funds for DA or development activities.

However, he made it clear that the government had no intention to deprive the employees. We will release DA as and when the government arranges money, he said.

He alleged the 13th Finance Commision has caused harm to the State as it had arranged less outlay to meet the States committed expenditure for the next five years.

Usually the Finance Commission substantaily increases outlay for the State in meeting non-plan expenditure of the State Government. But this time, the 13th Finance Commission had increased only .89 per cent when compared to 12th Finance Commissions allocation that resulted in financial constraint, he said.

Chowhdury, however, claimed the State Government has chalked out a plan to tide over the sitaution. Austerity measure, mobilisation of own revenue resources are expected to give new lease of life to the States fiscal status, he said.
