AGARTALA, Dec 12 With an eye on the coming Assembly elections, the Left Front Government in Tripura has announced a pay hike for around 2.10 lakh government employees including security forces.

The Council of Ministers has decided to follow the basic pay fixation formula of the Central Governments Sixth Pay Commission (1.86 instead of 1.74), Chief Minister Manik Sarkar told reporters here on Wednesday.

Sarkar said the government has reviewed the position particularly additional resource mobilisation and considered to allow the benefit of re-fixation of pay and pension of the State Government employees and pensioners respectively using 1.86 multiplication factors notionally with effect from January 1, 2006 and with financial benefit from December 1 this year.

The additional financial implication is estimated to be about Rs 265.10 crore in a full year and Rs 88.37 crore for the remaining period of this current month, Sarkar said.

He added that the 6th Central Pay Commission while determining fixation formula for revised pay structure for the Central Government employees had recommended the multiplication factor of 1.74 over previous basic multiplication factor for pay fixation in revised pay structure considering the fact that 24 per cent DA was released to Central Government employees from 2004 2006 over the merged basic.

Sarkar said the State Government has also decided to extend the retirement age of the Tripura State Rifles personnel with immediate effect from December 11, 2012 to 57 years. The decision will benefit about 13,000 TSR personnel.

Earlier, TSR head-constables retirement age was 57 years and for constable it was 52 years. The government also decided to increase the salaries of 315 under-graduate and graduate teachers.
