AGARTALA, Sept 2 - If the present trend continues, it will be tough for the Tripura Education department to fill up sanctioned posts of teaching staff especially in Under Graduate and Graduate categories.
Only 239 candidates have been able to clear Teacher Eligibility Test (TET)-I against the total sanctioned posts of 6,422 while only 1,068 candidates took the examination, according to a report of Teachers� Recruitment Board of Tripura (TRBT).
A substantial number of posts of Graduate Teachers has remained vacant even after conducting TET (II) as only 146 candidates have managed to clear the hurdle against 1,470 vacant posts while 2,648 appeared in the examination.
Education department has been facing trouble to get suitable teachers to fill up vacant posts in all categories of teaching staff � Under Graduate, Graduate and Post Graduate. �Stringent guideline under Right to Education Act 2009 � scoring 50 marks in HS (+2), B.Ed and Diploma in Education appear as major hurdle to get suitable candidate for filling up vacant posts�, said an official of the department.
There is no point of conducting TET before capacity building of job aspiring youths, he said, adding that it will be tough to get eligible candidates for teaching jobs as the State lacks in educational infrastructure.
Sacking of 10,323 teachers and the government�s subsequent decision of engaging them will have an adverse impact on the State�s education system especially in elementary and secondary level.
Apart from the MHRD�s latest instruction of sending all the in-service teachers for mandatory training and acquiring minimum educational qualification has sent an alarm bell ringing in the education sector.
