AGARTALA, Sept 14 � A cashier of the Tripura School Education department, who allegedly misappropriated government funds of at least Rs 3 crore by forging bank cheques, was arrested from Kolkata, IG, Police (Control), Nepal Das said today.
Arnab Chakraborty, cashier of the School Education department had forged the cheques of the Director and Additional Director of the department and had fled to Kolkata on September 11 last.
A special team of police led by DSP Sanjoy Biswas found that he transferred Rs 30 lakh from his bank account to a prostitute in Kolkata in different phases since March last.
Acting on this information, a joint team of Tripura and West Bengal police laid a trap and arrested him from Baguihati in Kolkata yesterday, Das said.
He was produced before the CJM court at Barasat and was given a transit remand to bring him here. � PTI
