AGARTALA, Oct 14 - Two more patients succumbed to COVID-19 during the past 48 hours in Tripura. With the new deaths, the virus toll has touched 315 in the State, which is the second highest in the North East region.
Over 250 positive cases were reported during the same period, taking the total number of infections to 28,859, according to official sources. Tripura has now 3,500 active cases, including patients who are in home isolation. As many as 25,018 patients have recovered so far.
Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath today said the overall COVID-19 situation in the State has improved over the past couple of weeks.
While the weekly positivity rate has come down since the last week of September (10.85 percent), the number of weekly death cases has also declined during the period, he told media persons.
�In the first week of September, Tripura witnessed 40 deaths. The toll went up to 55 in the second week. However, in the second week of October, 16 fatalities alone were reported,� Nath said.
In the past 48 hours, the State registered only two deaths showing a positive sign in the battle against the pandemic, the minister said, adding that the positivity rate which stood at 13.09 per cent in the first week of September, has come down to 8.21 per cent now.
From September 1 to October 12, 1,44,550 COVID-19 tests were carried out in the State. Tripura is ahead of 24 States when it comes to per million tests. With respect to the recovery rate, Tripura is ahead of 17 States.
Nath also referred to a High Court verdict on a public interest litigation (PIL), appreciating the State Government�s efforts to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. �We are happy that the High Court has applauded the State Government�s all-out efforts to check the pandemic. The Government is ready to accept any suggestions in this regard,� the minister said.
