Tripura COVID-19 scene turns grim with 98 new cases

AGARTALA, July 17 - The COVID-19 scene in Tripura has worsened after the detection of 98 new positive cases, including 72 through rapid antigen tests, during the past 24 hours.

In the wake of the sudden spurt in positive cases � 312 cases in three days � rapid tests are being conducted by antigen test kits.

Of the total new cases, 18 were air passengers, seven had come in contact with positive patients and one has travel history. Significantly, the 72 persons who were confirmed positive through rapid antigen tests, have no travel history. As of Friday, Tripura has recorded 2,384 positive cases and three fatalities.

�Community transmission has already started in some districts like Gomati, Sepahijala, South and West,� said a senior Health Department official here today.

�As many as 3,015 samples were taken up for COVID-19 tests, out of which 98 tested positive. Most importantly, the number of COVID-19 tests has increased significantly over the past three days,� said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb last night.

Of the 98 new positive cases, Gomati district has the highest number (22), followed by West district (21). Sepahijala has reported 17 positive cases.

Meanwhile, 33 patients have been released from various COVID Care Centres after testing negative.

The district administrations have already geared up to implement the night curfew from 9 pm to 7 am in the entire State and a complete lockdown in the border areas.

However, residents in some containment zones have complained of non-arrangement of daily needs by the local administration. As per guidelines, people living in containment zones are not allowed to step out of their houses.
