AGARTALA, Nov 11 - There has been no fatality due to COVID-19 during the last three days in Tripura, which indicates that the situation has improved.
A report of the Union Health Ministry states it would take at least 240 days to double confirmed COVID-19 positive cases in the State if the present trend continues. Till date, Tripura has recorded a caseload of 31,622 and a death of more than 350. The fatality rate stands at 1.13 per cent, while the recovery rate is 95.05 per cent. The positivity rate is 6.05 per cent.
Tripura Education Minister Ratal Lal Nath said that he had attended a virtual meeting with Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Harsh Vardhan over the present COVID-19 situation in the State.
In the meeting, a senior Health Ministry official presented a detailed report on the future trend of COVID-19 in ten States including Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram. While Tripuras caseload could double after 240 days, the COVID-19 cases could double in Meghalaya and Mizoram in 87 and 40 days respectively. The projection for Manipur is also not good with the ministry predicting doubling of confirmed cases in 68 days, Nath said.
This means that the overall pandemic situation in Tripura is better than other North Eastern States due to the firm steps taken by the Government, the minister claimed, adding that the Government has already carried out a sero survey to check the antibody level among frontline workers and the public.
The survey revealed that an average 33.98 per cent people have developed antibodies or herd immunity in the State during the past seven months. While the antibody level appears good in five districts including West Tripura, the situation is not so good in South Tripura (19.98 per cent) and North Tripura (22.09 per cent) districts.
Nath said that the Government would not show any leniency when it came to battling the COVID-19 pandemic. He urged the people to obey the basic guidelines.
On the vaccination plan, the minister said that the Government has already prepared a data base for carrying out a drive once the vaccine is available. The frontline warriors doctors, nurses, pathologists, guards, and cleaning staff will be given priority in the proposed vaccination drive, he added. A State-level and district-level committees for vaccination have also been constituted to expedite the whole process, Nath added.
