Tripura COVID-19 patients stable: Govt

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, April 11 - Both COVID-19 patients of Tripura are stable, official sources said today. They have been admitted to the ICU of the GB Pant Hospital here. It may be mentioned here that the second positive case of COVID-19 in the State was confirmed on Friday.

The patient, a jawan of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), was in the same compartment of the Tripura Sundari Express in which the first COVID-19 patient of the State a 35-year-old woman was travelling, during the Tripura-bound journey last month. It is not clear who was the first to be infected as the TSR jawan, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, had boarded the train from Anand Vihar in Delhi, while the woman had started her journey from Guwahati.

As many as 35 persons, mostly TSR jawans, who had come in contact with the TSR jawan, have been sent to institutional quarantine and all of them are under surveillance, said Dr Debashish Basu, Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department.

Briefing media persons on the status of COVID-19 in the State, Dr Basu said that both COVID-19 patients are doing well at the ICU, and that the first patient would undergo another test tomorrow. As per the procedure, two negative tests are mandatory for release of a COVID-19 patient from hospital after treatment, he pointed out.

As of now, the State has put 769 persons under quarantine, out of whom 613 individuals are in home quarantine and 156 in institutional quarantine. The Government has decided to conduct COVID-19 tests on all the persons under quarantine by next week. This will give a clear picture of the overall situation in the State, Dr Basu said.

Meanwhile, the Health Secretary said that Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had attended the video conference hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with chief ministers of all States today. Took part in video conference with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi & other CMs, apprised him about the latest COVID19 situation of Tripura. Honble PM has assured full support to Tripura in this fight against COVID19. Centre & State Govts are working jointly to overcome this pandemic, Deb said in a Facebook post.
