Tripura CM to meet Bangla PM

By CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA, Oct 3 - The bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina, which is scheduled on October 5, will be a game changer for Tripura, said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday.

I am going to Delhi to meet the Bangladesh Prime Minister, who will be on a visit to Delhi from October 3 to 6. I will meet her at the Bangabandhu Bhawan on Thursday night to take up issues specific to Tripura.

If everything goes right, the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the Chittagong port and the Mongla port in Bangladesh will be signed by Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart on October 5, he revealed before leaving for New Delhi today.

An agreement on the SOP for the Chittagong port is important for the State to access it. The Feni bridge in Sabroom subdivision, connecting the two sides of the international border, will be completed in March next year. Once the bridge is commissioned, access to the Chittagong port, which is only 70 km from Sabroom town, will be easier for the State. It will help Tripura to become a trade corridor for the entire North East region.

The Chief Minister said that a separate agreement on declaration of an international protocol route from Dawodkandi (Bangladesh) to Sonamura would also be signed by the Prime Ministers of the two counties. This is important to operationalise the Gomati-Meghna waterway in order to undertake any activity from Sonamura to Dawodkandi.
