Tripura CM hails State apartment project

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Oct 10 - The ambitious plan to build 3,000 multi-storeyed apartments at three locations in the capital town has been the best achievement of the BJP-IPFT Government in Tripura during the past 18 months, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb stated today.

Booking of 1,000 flats in four days is also a remarkable success of the Government that has taken the initiative to construct 3,000 flats by floating a body called the Tripura Urban and Infrastructure Building Authority (TUDA), the Chief Minister said while speaking at a campaign programme called Angikaar at the Town Hall here.

Deb said the State Government would not spend money on the project. On the other hand, it will collect funds from the TUDA to provide three plots of land. TUDA will undertake the construction works by using the money gained from booking of flats. It may take loans and earn profits by selling the finished flats, he added.

Mere implementation of Central Government schemes is not an achievement of the State Government, the Chief Minister asserted, stressing that the State should take pride in executing its own schemes and projects. We are making all-out efforts to make Tripura a self-reliant State and the apartment project is one of the States own initiatives. That is why it is special, Deb maintained.

The Chief Minister announced that 1,200 flats would be built at the proposed IT hub at the Old Central Jail. The proceeds from the sale of flats will be spent on building up the IT hub. We plan to set up two hospitals, including an eye hospital on the land of the Old Central Jail, he said.

According to Deb, the IT hub may cater to the needs of the Bangladesh banking sector through BPOs. We want Tripura to stand on its own feet and the State Government has been working in that direction, he added.
