Tripura CM for increase in NEC outlay

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Sept 29 Making an empathic call for a change in the strategy to implement the NER Vision 2020, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Tuesday strongly advocated for a hike in the outlay of North Eastern Council (NEC).

While speaking at the 59th meeting of NEC in Delhi on Tuesday, Chief Minister said that there is an urgent need to bring a change in strategy and increase the investment to ensure proper implementation of the NER Vision 2020.

Sarkar made it clear that the vision document had recognized agriculture and allied sector, connectivity and infrastructure development like power as priority areas. But the subsequent measures required for operationalising the vision document have not been adequate, he said.

The Chief Minister demanded that the outlay for the NEC should be increased from Rs 700 crore to Rs 2500 crore during the current financial year. The current years allocation is too meagre to take up any meaningful development initiatives, he said, adding that the NEC had sanctioned only four projects amounting to Rs 281.41 crore for Tripura.
